OLYMPIA, Wash. — A bill making the harassment of election officials a felony got a hearing in Olympia Monday.
The bill would imprison offenders up to 10 years with a maximum fine of $20,000.
Republican Secretary of State Kim Wyman said the protections should trickle down to include all election officials, not just those who hold elected office.
Senator Patty Kuderer of Bellevue, a Democrat, questioned the timing, asking if there were threats being made to election officials before, or if this is just the result of the events of 2020.
Senate Bill 5148 was co-sponsored by 40th District Democratic Senator Liz Lovelett.
