BELLINGHAM, Wash. — One person was killed in a house fire in Bellingham this Valentine’s Day.
The Bellingham Fire Department says firefighters responded to the report of a residential structure fire in the 4300 block of Frances Avenue, with individuals trapped inside.
They sprang into rescue mode and entered the building, but were faced with heavy smoke, heat and fire that started to collapse the second floor and forced them to evacuate.
Firefighters did manage to rescue one person, however another person in the home did not make it out alive.
The BFD says investigators determined that the fire was an accident.
