SEATTLE, Wash. — The University of Washington is now in possession of ancient coins seized at the border crossing in Blaine.
KIRO7 reports a Homeland Security investigation couldn’t determine if the 51 Greek Hellenistic and early Islamic coins were acquired and imported legally.
The coins’ rightful owner also couldn’t be found so the agency turned them over to the university.
Professors will use them to teach about ancient societies and the illegal trafficking of artifacts.
