OLYMPIA, Wash. — Avalanche dangers prompted Washington state transportation officials to close multiple state highways Sunday.
Highway 20 was closed Sunday night at milepost 120, Newhalem until further notice due to a small avalanche and the potential for more.
WSDOT says it will remain closed until further notice.
Snoqualmie Pass was also closed Sunday night.
The closure was announced after heavy rains fell on the snow along the pass and increased the danger of avalanches.
It’s unknown how long the pass would be closed.
Traffic is stopped eastbound at North Bend.
Stevens Pass is also closed from mile posts 58-64.
