FERNDALE, Wash. — A new bench has been installed in downtown Ferndale to memorialize a former police chief.
The Ferndale Downtown Association raised the funds and installed a memorial bench in honor of former Police Chief Michael Knapp.
The bench has been installed at Third and Vista in front of Ye Olde Barbershop.
Chief Knapp died in November 2019 at age 79 after he was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street in Lynden.
He was serving as the Interim Chief at the Lynden Police Department at the time and, years before, he served as the chief of police in Ferndale.
