BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Some unexpectedly gusty winds gave two kite surfers a scare Sunday in Bellingham Bay.
A Coast Guard boat crew rescued the two after receiving a distress call on VHF distress channel 16 from a Good Samaritan who saw them struggling in the 2-3 foot seas just after 10am.
Officials say while the two were wearing wet suits, they did not have life jackets on, putting them at risk of drowning if either had been knocked unconscious.
The kite surfers were resuced and brought back to Taylor Dock without injury.
