OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington and Canadian entomologists are already buzzing about another season of taking on Asian giant hornets.

They’re planning to trap, track and eradicate any of the invasive species that so far has only been found in Whatcom County and British Columbia.

The hornets are especially deadly to honey bees, as this Custer bee keeper found out when they attacked one of his colonies in 2019.

The state Department of Agriculture is again asking citizens to trap and report any so-called murder hornets they might find after they become active in mid-summer.

They’re holding a news conference with their Canadian counterparts to offer more details on Wednesday.
