BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The City of Bellingham continues to clear illegal homeless encampments from parks and other city property.
A sign posted at Sunset Pond Park behind the Sunset Square shopping center in Bellingham warned of a cleanup set for Monday morning, April 12th, at 8am, saying overnight camping at the site was illegal.
A homeless encampment has persisted at the site for several months, last night numbering 7 tents and two derelict cars.
The Bellingham Occupied Protest group that purports to advocate for local homeless posted a call for volunteers to help campers move this morning.
They also reiterated online “demands” for bans on so-called camp sweeps as well as “permanent no barrier housing”.
