BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A man faces assault and weapons charges after police say he tried to run another man down with a truck.

Lieutenant Claudia Murphy reports officers were called to Winco Foods parking lot late Saturday night on reports that a man was chasing a pedestrian with his truck.

The victim told them he was standing next to his vehicle when a man he’d recently had an argument with drove up and pointed what he thought was an assault rifle at him.

The man pulled a knife and punctured one of the truck’s tires then ran.

The driver chased him and tried to hit him several times.

Officers located the driver, John M. Ashton, on Meridian near I-5.

They found him in possession of a realistic-looking assault-style pellet rifle.
