OLYMPIA, Wash. — New coronavirus impacts on Whatcom residents continue to hold steady.

For data through Wednesday, the state reports an average one new COVID hospitalization per day in the county.

The rate of first time positive tests is continuing at roughly 25 per day, where it was early last November.

In the past 30 days, there has been 1 death attributed to COVID-19 in Whatcom County.

Meanwhile, state health officials say COVID-19 immunity is increasing in Washington, but not enough.

In a new report, the state Department of Health found that population immunity is helping control transmission as more people get vaccinated, but it isn’t yet enough to counteract risky behavior.

They say statewide case counts and hospital admissions are increasing in all areas of the state.

State Health Officer Scott Lindquist says everyone, including those who are fully vaccinated, needs to keep taking steps to slow the spread of COVID-19 while vaccinations continue.
