SEATTLE, Wash. — Two Whatcom County companies are among eight renovators in Washington that have reached settlements with the EPA over lead paint.
Stone Construction of Bellingham was cited for not having the proper certification for handling lead-based paint residue when it renovated a property on Humboldt Street last year.
Northwest Professional Services of Lynden also didn’t have the proper certification when it performed work on properties in Lynden and Bellingham.
Both companies paid small fines and agreed to come into compliance.
Dust or chips from lead-based paint in structures built before 1978 are leading causes of lead poisoning in children.
