Effective May 12th, the Bureau of Land Management is taking extra precautions to prevent human-caused wildfires.

BLM is prohibiting the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, metallic and exploding targets for target shooting, and firing tracer or incendiary devices on any and all BLM-managed land in Washington and Oregon.

Drought intensity is increasing across both states due to low precipitation.

Those who violate the prohibition can be fined up to $1,000 and/or receive a prison term of up to one year.

In addition, those found responsible for starting wildland fires on federal lands may be billed the cose of fire suppression.
