WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Challengers stepped up for Whatcom County primary races during filing week.

Three people are challenging Whatcom County At-Large representative Barry Buchanan: Kamal Bhachu, Misty Flowers and Bob Burr.

Kathy Sabel, Fred Rinard and Rebecca Lewis have stepped up to take on District 3’s Tyler Bird and Kelley O’Connor is challenging District 2 incumbent Todd Donovan.

Kaylee Galloway, Eddy Ury and Jeremiah Ramsey have filed for the District 1 seat being vacated by Rud Browne.

Port of Bellingham Commissioner Ken Bell has drawn two challengers: Kelly Krieger and Austin Chapin

John Huntley has filed to take on incumbent Commissioner Michael Shepard.

In Bellingham City Council races Kristina Michele Martens, Tonia Boze and Russ Whidbee are vying for the At-Large position.

Hollie Huthman is vacating that seat to run for retiring Council Member Gene Knutson’s Ward 2 position.

Eve Samson-Marcus is taking on Ward 6 member Michael Lilliquist while Skip Williams is the only candidate who filed for the Ward 4 seat.

Williams is poised to become the first African American City Council member in Bellingham.

The Whatcom County Auditor will hold a special three day filing period from May 26th through the 28th for offices for which no candidate filed.
