A seasonal danger for young children is falling out of open windows during stretches of hot weather.
Dr. Beth Ebel says they’ve treated five children at Harborview Medical Center for serious injuries from falls out of windows in just the past few weeks, and one child died.
“Find a way to limit the opening of that window in your kids room,” says Ebel. “These are inexpensive devices you can get from the hardware center to stop sliders from opening or limit the crank window. They work. You need it in that window that you open in your kids room.”
Doctors at Harborview treat about 50 kids each year who are injured from falls out of windows.
