People sought treatment for heat-related stress and illnesses at Bellingham’s hospital and some deaths were reported across the region during the recent heat wave.

PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center reports that as of Wednesday 23 people had arrived at it’s Emergency Department with heat related issues.

Eight of those people were admitted to the hospital.

British Columbia’s chief coroner says her office received reports of almost 500 sudden deaths since the heat wave began Friday.

She says the province usually sees 165 deaths in a typical five day period.

King County says it saw 13 heat-related deaths and more are reported in other Western Washington Counties.
