WALLA WALLA COUNTY, Wash. – The West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquitoes in Walla Walla County.
It’s the first confirmed detection in the state this year.
Two people were infected with the virus in Washington State last year.
For a small number of people, infection with West Nile can lead to permanent neurological effects or death and people over 60 are at the highest risk.
The Department of Health recommends some simple precautions like using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors, and eliminating mosquito-breeding areas around your home.
