Careful out there if you’re hiking in the Pacific Northwest wilderness.

Search and rescue teams from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island conducted five rescues over the weekend in Olympic National Park and the Cascades.

On Friday, they rescued a 32-year-old hiker with a broken leg who fell off a cliff on Mount Sauk in eastern Skagit County before flying them to Peace Health St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham.

Then on Saturday search and rescue received a late-night alert for a 34-year-old woman who suffered a broken ankle in the Alpine Wilderness east of Seattle.

She was found at an altitude of 5,500 feet and transferred to Harborview Medical center.

Similar rescues, both from falls, were conducted on Sunday and Monday in the Olympics and on Mount Stuart near Leavenworth.

Whidbey Island Search and Rescue has conducted 24 missions so far this year, including five MEDEVACS, sixteen rescues and three searches.
