CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) authorized funding for firefighting costs for the Red Apple fire burning in Chelan County.
The funds were made available after FEMA determined it could cause enough destruction to become a major disaster.
The fire is threatening homes in areas around Cashmere and Wenatchee, critical communications and emergency medical services, as well as roads, bridges and public utilities.
This is the third federal grant approved to help fight wildfires in Washington State so far this year.
