DEMING, Wash. – Around 4pm Thursday, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a man who had been assaulted with a weapon in the 5400 block of Deming.
Upon arriving, deputies found a 50-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.
Witnesses named the suspect, 53-year-old Scott Richard Baker, and gave a description of his vehicle.
Deputies spotted the vehicle at approximately 5:00pm and attempted to stop the suspect, who fled down Highway 9 at speeds over 80 MPH.
After multiple attempted PIT maneuvers, Whatcom County deputies were able to stop the suspect.
Neither the suspect nor deputies were injured and two small puppies were recovered safely from the back of suspect’s vehicle.
Scott was booked into Whatcom County Jail under investigation of Attempted First Degree Murder, Felony Eluding a Police Vehicle, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
No further information has been released on the incident or the victim, as detectives continue to investigate.
