MAZAMA, Wash. – State Route 20 remains closed as crews battle multiple wildfires in the North Cascades.

While the closure is west of Winthrop, between mile markers 165 and 177, WSDOT wants drivers to know there are no local roads or services east of Marblemount and they will be turned around if they attempt to drive though.

The closure will likely remain in place through the weekend and drivers should use SR 2 or I-90 if they’re heading over the Cascades.

The Cedar Creek fire was sparked by lightning last weekend and merged with with the larger Varden Fire yesterday.

Governor Inlsee issued a state of emergency last week and a statewide burn ban is in effect.
