WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The local unemployment rate was up just slightly last month but was a far cry from what we saw a year ago.
Figures from the Employment Security Department show Whatcom County had a 5.4% jobless rate in June, up from 5.2% the month before.
Our rate was 11.5% in June 2020.
The local workforce grew by about 2,000 over the past year while almost 9,000 more workers were receiving a paycheck in June compared to the same month last year.
