WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – We’ve been hearing lots of reports citing statistics about breakthrough cases of COVID-19 among the vaccinated.

But the Whatcom County Health Department says the bottom line is vaccination protects you against both infection by and serious illness from the coronavirus.

They say almost all of the cases and hospitalizations from February to June in Whatcom County were among unvaccinated people.

There were just 114 breakthrough cases among almost 4000 confirmed infections during that time and just five of the 205 people hospitalized were vaccinated.
