BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A man suspected of making a bomb threat that cut short last Wednesday night’s Downtown Sounds event is in jail.
Officers booked 31-year-old Colton James Powell into Whatcom County jail early Friday, August 6th, on suspicion of making a bomb threat and felony harassment.
Police Lieutenant Claudia Murphy says an employee at the Bayou on the Bay restaurant received a call from an unknown male who claimed to have placed bombs at the nearby Spark Museum and Black Sheep Restaurant.
He claimed the bombs were set to go off at 8:23pm.
Bellingham officers and an explosives K9 swept the area and determined the threat to be a hoax.
Police tracked the phone call the next day and found it belonged to Powell.
Police SWAT team and Crisis Negotiator Teams responded to his home in the 2600 block of Undine Street and were able to get him to peacefully surrender.
