WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Whatcom County Health Department continues to urge everyone who’s eligible to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.

While 56% of county residents are fully vaccinated and almost 62% have gotten at least one dose, the department says 50,000 local residents haven’t been vaccinated and remain vulnerable.

Local health officials also push back against information being spread on social media claiming high mortality numbers caused by vaccines.

It explains that the claims are a misreading of data on the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System – or VAERS – website maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services.
