A new online tool gives you the chance to make a serious effort at redistricting Washington or just to gerrymander to your hearts delight.
The Washington State Redistricting Commission is asking for the public’s input as it redraws the state’s legislative and congressional boundaries.
Its mapping tool called Draw Your WA is updated with data from the 2020 census.
Commission spokesperson Jamie Nixon says the tool can even be focused locally.
“If people want to do one where they show their district, if they want to say I think my district should include this neighborhood that’s next door because we get along really well those people. It just seems like a weird thing last time that we weren’t put in the same district,” says Nixon. “We could also look at that idea too.”
The Commission will consider suggestions from the public as it redraws the maps.
They’ll also hold virtual public outreach meetings in early October.
