WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The second Asian Giant Hornet nest found in Whatcom County in 2021 has been eradicated but a third has been found.
State Department of Agriculture crews have had a busy few days after following a tagged hornet to the second nest on Friday.
They moved in and eradicated it Saturday morning.
It was a large nest with four combs.
That and another nest found last month were in the same general area of north Whatcom County where the first nest was discovered and taken apart last fall.
Another nest has also been discovered and crews will eradicate it in coming days.
The nests and their contents are preserved for study to learn more about the invasive species.
