BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A man faces charges for allegedly setting dumpster fires and threatening Bellingham Police officers with a knife.

Officers responded to a report of a dumpster on fire in the 3900 block of Meridian Street just after midnight on August 31st.

They saw a man wearing dark clothing, sunglasses and with a backpack walking away from the area.

They contacted him and he pulled a knife from the backpack and brandished it toward the officers.

He said they would “have to shoot him” and continued to walk away.

He was identified as 32-year-old Andrew J. Lorenzo and taken into custody on Sunday.

He’s suspected in several other dumpster fires in recent weeks.
