WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Autumn hasn’t officially arrived yet but we should get our first taste of fall weather on Friday, September 17th.
The forecast calls for rain and windy conditions as a storm system rolls in and lingers over the weekend.
Whatcom Emergency Management expects varying amounts of rainfall from one inch in the lowlands to four inches or more at higher elevations.
River flooding isn’t expected but streams could overflow and drains and culverts could become clogged and cause some flooded roadways.
Winds of about 20 miles per hour with gusts to 30 are expected, which could cause spotty power outages due to fallen trees.
Snow levels will drop to about 6000 feet, and rain is expected to continue off and on through the weekend.
You can listen to an interview with Whatcom County Emergency Management’s Wally Kost about what we should expect from the storm on our Podcast page.
