WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – While we got some relief with recent rains, we’re finding out how pervasive drought has been in Washington State.
The National Weather Service says western Whatcom County was in moderate to severe drought until rain moved in on Friday, September 17th.
And it’s been a record-breaking year of drought in much of Eastern Washington.
In all, 16 Washington counties, including 13 in eastern Washington, are drier than they’ve ever been since record-keeping began in 1895.
The NWS says Washington received just 6.90 inches of precipitation from March to August.
Just over 13 inches is normal for that stretch.
