WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – It’s time for shoppers in Washington State to grab themselves some reusable bags.

A statewide ban on single-use plastic bags goes into effect on Friday, October 1st.

In 2020, the state legislature passed the ban to help reduce plastic pollution, litter, and waste, but implementation was delayed due to the pandemic.

Single-use plastic bags will be completely banned, while paper bags and reusable plastic bags can be purchased by customers for 8 cents.

The Department of Ecology says Washingtonians use around 2 billion single-use plastic bags every year.
