SEATTLE, Wash. – New research from UW Medicine shows that some COVID variants are causing more hospitalizations than others.
The study shows that people in Washington that were infected with the Alpha, Beta, Gamma, or Delta variants were more likely to end up in the hospital than those who contracted non-variant COVID-19.
In particular, those infected with the Gamma and Beta variants were the most likely to end up in the hospital.
Researchers also found that people who were vaccinated but contracted any variant form of COVID-19 were at a lower risk of being hospitalized.
