ANACORTES, Wash. – Crew shortages forced the cancellation of more than a dozen San Juan Island ferries yesterday and today.
The ferry system says the lack of Coast Guard Documented Crew kept the Chelan out of service for most of the day October 6th.
That forced the cancellation of 13 sailings between the islands and to and from Anacortes.
New reservations for the islands were closed all day and those holding reservations for the cancelled trips will be given priority on other sailings.
The Chelan is expected to be back in service at 3:40 pm this afternoon, Thursday, October 7th.
The ferry system has not given a reason for the crew shortages.
