BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Bellingham man has been arrested for stealing catalytic converters from county vehicles.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputies say that three catalytic converters were reported stolen from the cars Monday morning, October 4th.

Early Tuesday, deputies pulled over a vehicle that had been reported stolen on Marine Drive.

The driver, 31-year-old Joel James, claimed he owned the car, but couldn’t provide deputies with any proof.

James eventually admitted to stealing the car, as well as the catalytic converters from the county vehicles.

Investigators said in a Facebook post that James had pulled over into the home of a known catalytic converter buyer.
