BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Campaigns both for and against Bellingham ballot measures have raised a lot of cash, with most of it coming from outside the city.
The four initiatives are aimed at regulating rent, working conditions and policing in the city.
Initiative 1 would require landlords to pay relocation assistance to renters under certain conditions and set other rules for lease termination.
Initiative 2 would ban Bellingham Police from adopting facial recognition technology and establish other regulations on policing.
Initiative 3 prohibits the city from interfering with union organization.
Initiative 4 would require employers to pay hourly workers compensation for sudden schedule changes and impose other regulations relating to hourly and gig workers.
The Public Disclosure Commission reports a group opposed to Initiative 4 has raised more than $93,000, with over $90,000 coming from organizations in Olympia.
A group advocating for all four initiatives has raised over $65,000, with the largest single donation of $50,000 coming from a Seattle organization.
