SEATTLE, Wash. – A young woman who pleaded guilty to a charge of Violence Against Railroad Carriers for sabotaging tracks near Bellingham has been sentenced.

Samantha Frances Brooks was sentenced on Friday, October 8th, in U.S. District Court to six months in prison followed by four months of home monitoring and three years probation.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies observed the 24-year-old and another woman near railroad tracks west of Bellingham late on November 28, 2020

Officers found a shunt that could interfere with railroad signaling installed on the tracks and arrested the pair.

A jury found 28-year-old Ellen Reiche guilty of the same charge and she’ll be sentenced in December.
