MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – A 22-year-old Mount Vernon man has been sentenced to 100 months in prison for dealing fentanyl-laced pills that were responsible for at least two overdoses, including the overdose death of a 17-year-old from Bellingham.
Jiovanni Nunez was found with over 900 counterfeit oxycodone pills tainted with fentanyl and was arrested in late 2019, after he had been distributing the pills in Whatcom and Skagit counties.
Newly appointed U.S. Attorney Nicholas Brown said of the sentencing, “It is critical that we not only stem the flow of the drugs into our community, but also remind people that using these pills often leads to death and devastation”
Following the prison sentence Nunez will spend four additional years of supervised release.
