WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A bomb cyclone is forecast to set up off the coast of British Columbia over the next few days, bringing heavy rains to Washington and Oregon.
Two storm systems will come together and strengthen in what forecasters are calling a bombogenesis.
Damaging winds are possible from the northwestern tip of Vancouver Island up to the Haida Gwaii archipelago in BC.
Winds could cause damage in the Pacific Northwest as the storm moves north, but it’s expected to mostly bring heavy rains to our area.
The rain should help alleviate drought conditions and flooding is possible in low lying areas.
Meteorologists define a bomb cyclone as a rapidly strengthening storm with pressure plummeting within a 24 hour period.
