HOUSTON, Texas – The family of the Western Washington University student who was killed in the crush of people at a Houston rap concert has joined a lawsuit against the promoters.

The attorney for 21-year-old Axel Acosta’s family says he suffered a terrible death.

“When he collapsed, concertgoers trying to escape their own suffocation caused by the crowd rush trampled over his body like a piece of trash,” says Acosta’s lawyer.

KOMO News was at a press conference at which family lawyer Tony Buzbee said they have a solid case.

“This concert was planned incredibly poorly,” says Buzbee. “No regard was given to the safety of these young people at the concert.”

Axel Acosta was among eight people who were killed at the Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival that also left hundreds injured.

His family says they hope the lawsuit will bring reform to how concerts are promoted and held around the country.
