WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – COVID 19 case rates remain high among school-age children in Whatcom County and unvaccinated adults continue to be hospitalized at a much higher rate than those who have gotten the shots.
But data released by the Whatcom County Health Department from the week ending October 30th shows vaccinated people are among those who’ve died from the disease.
Three fully vaccinated people between the ages of 60 and 79 died of COVID during that week while two unvaccinated people in that same age group also died.
There were 35 people hospitalized with COVID-19 as of October 30th, with 28 of those unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated.
Meanwhile, the infection rate among children ages 5 to 17 is the highest of any local age group, accounting for one of every four confirmed infections in the county.
However, the department says that case rate is trending down.
