BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A man is being held on a quarter million dollars bail after burglaries and a violent attempt to get away from police in northwest Bellingham.
Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy says a person reported a man was trying to force his way into a home on Cherrywood Avenue just before midnight on Tuesday, November 9th.
A responding officer saw Todd Hawley and recognized him as the man wanted for trying to steal liquor from several gas stations earlier in the day.
The officer shouted to Hawley that he was under arrest but Hawley started the truck and lurched out of the driveway, intentionally slamming into the front of a patrol car.
He sped away and ran several stop signs before losing control and ending up in a yard on West Maplewood.
He rammed the same patrol car again before his truck became hung-up on a chain-link fence.
Officers had to use several different non-lethal weapons before they were able to subdue Hawley and take him into custody.
