NOOKSACK, Wash. – The Nooksack Valley School District was especially hard hit by this weeks’ flooding.

Pictures of its buses in flood waters have been circulating on social media.

But Superintendent Matt Galley says some of their drivers leaped into action just in time.

“We got all but four of our buses to higher ground in the parking lot of the middle school and none of those buses had any water that was above the wheels,” said Galley. “So those are all fine.”

The other four buses have since been serviced and are okay.

Sumas Elementary was the one school in the district that was hard hit by flood water and will need extensive repairs.

Galley says school is cancelled through Friday, November 19th while they assess the situation and how to re-open.

He extends thanks to all of his staff and community members who have reached out to help.
