FERNDALE, Wash. – Firefighters from around Whatcom County are handing out free coats this morning, Friday, December 10th, to all the kids at Central Elementary School in Ferndale.
Bellingham Fire Department Firefighter Jeff Heinrichs says businesses in Ferndale raised $5,500 for Operation Warm, a charity dedicated to getting kids coats for the winter.
Fringe Brewing, Outlaws Saloon, Cedars Restaurant and Main Street Bar and Grille, all took part by accepting donations throughout the month of October from their patrons.
This is the 8th year for Operation Warm and they’ve donated 3500 coats over the years.
The effort is spearheaded by firefighters from departments in Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, North and South Whatcom County, and the Port of Bellingham.
