WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The U.S. Justice Department has awarded grants to several tribes across Washington State.
In a statement, US Attorney Nick Brown said that a total of $8.5 million will be distributed to enhance youth services and tribal judicial systems.
The Nooksack Tribe received about $2 million to renovate their Tribal Justice center and hire more staff for their court system.
Seven other tribes will be using the money towards teen development programs, drug treatment services, and developing a tribal family court.
