LYNDEN, Wash. – A portion of Birch Bay-Lynden Road at Rathbone Road remains closed this morning, Monday, January 10th, following a head-on crash near Lynden.
The road is closed in both directions between Bob Hall Rd. and Berthusen Rd.
The Washington State Patrol said in a statement that the accident occurred on Sunday at around 9 pm.
28-year-old Akash Kumar’s vehicle crossed the center line and hit a second vehicle head on near Rathbone Rd.
Kumar was taken to the hospital and faces reckless driving charges.
The second driver was not injured.
Traffic is backed up in the area this morning as crews continue to clear the scene.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says the road is expected to reopen between 8 and 10 a.m. this morning.
Drivers are being encouraged to seek an alternate route if they normally head through the area.
