Temperance and Good Citizenship Day – Washington State Public high schools – Friday, January 14th – Observance started in 1923 to promote civic engagement and citizenship. High School seniors can register to vote in their social studies classes and all 16- and 17-year-olds can register as future voters. Anyone, regardless of age, who wants to register to vote, visit VoteWA.gov.
Martin Luther King, Jr Day of Service – City of Bellingham – Monday, January 17th – Volunteer to help clean up parks on this “day on” in the city. Registration is filling up.
The King Center for Nonviolent Social Change – Atlanta, Georgia – Saturday, January 15th – Great resource for educational tools on Dr. King’s nonviolent approach to social change. Register for online events including It Starts With ME! A Virtual Youth Book Reading and Puppetry Presentation. Free. Donations accepted.
