OLYMPIA, Wash. – Prices for some COVID-19 test kits are on the rise and that’s illegal, according to state Attorney General Bob Ferguson.
Ferguson issued a consumer alert Tuesday, January 18th, to warn residents of price gouging on those test kits.
Complaints filed with the AG’s office included reports of ads that attempted to sell the tests from anywhere between $50-70 a box.
Most stores have been selling the kits for around $15, in comparison.
Ferguson adds that the state’s Consumer Protection Act makes unfair business practices, such as marking up the price of emergency supplies, illegal.
Anyone who may be concerned about the price of COVID tests should contact the Attorney General’s office.
