BLAINE, Wash. – A Whatcom County school district is buckling under a surge in COVID-19 cases.

All Pre-K through 12th grade students in Blaine School District will move to remote learning from Tuesday, Jan. 25 through Friday, Jan. 28th.

The decision came shortly after the district released a statement regarding the impact of the Omicron variant on the community, in which superintendent Christopher Granger said that he feared “a breaking point is very near.”

On Jan. 20, 455 students and 78 staff members, or 23% the total school community were absent across the district, with 20 staff positions going unfilled.
