VANTAGE, Wash. – The Department of Labor and Industries is fining a Bellingham construction company for a worker’s on-the-job death last August.

The man from Toppenish was working for Boss Construction, which had a contract to restore a historic bridge over the Columbia River near Vantage, Washington.

He fell about 60 feet to an island below and an investigation by L&I determined Boss didn’t supply adequate fall protection.

Boss Construction will pay a fine of $284,000.

The company was contracted by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, which also paid a fine for having a worker on the bridge without fall protection.
