FERNDALE, Wash. – A Ferndale company is selling virtual greeting cards online to help fund their efforts cleaning up ocean trash around the world.
The Northern Lights reports Greg Dayley and Annie Jenkins, launched Trashy Greetings last November after they spent thousands of dollars cleaning up beaches.
Dayley started picking up trash in Whatcom County to kill time during the pandemic, and Jenkins, who lives in Maine, decided to do the same.
And a friend of Dayley’s in the Philippines joined the effort after seeing one of his posts on social media.
So far, they’ve hired crews that have cleaned up over 32,000 pounds of trash, mostly in the Philippines.
Dayley says he picks up garbage every week in Birch Bay, Bellingham Bay and along the Nooksack River.
