WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Two Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies who were shot Thursday afternoon are in stable condition.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Deb Slater says the deputies were conscious and alert at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Thursday evening.
They were shot after responding to a neighborhood dispute in the Peaceful Valley area near Kendall at 4:20 p.m.
Witnesses said two men were shooting at each other and the deputies were shot while trying to dialogue with a man armed with a shotgun.
The suspect surrendered at 6:02 p.m.
A Law Enforcement Mutual Aid Team is taking over the investigation and the Bellingham Police Department will be providing further information.
